Homage to Hokusai Shadow Box

This shadow box is an homage to the Japanese artist Hokusai. His original woodblock print, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" was created in 1831 and is the best known Asian piece of art in the West. I've always been a fan of Japanese woodblock prints and enjoyed creating this one very much. Each color is a different piece of 65lb. paper. These pieces of paper are then layered together to create the entire scene. The technique of adding space between the layers of paper in my shadowbox really creates depth between the water and the sky. 

The shadow box can either sit on a table top or be hung on a wall.

This shadow box measures 10" x 10" x1.75" and is in a black wood frame with glass. 

Colors may vary slightly, as every box is made to order and paper availability may change.
